I accept the theory of evolution because the world is not consistant with the book of Acts, Mark 16:17, and Matthew 17:20 How is it not consistent?

don't creationists know gimme gimme never gets?

thinking and acting of human beings is an utterly insignificant reflection. This feeling is the guiding principle of his life and work, in so far as he succeeds in keeping himself from the shackles of selfish desire. It is beyond question closely akin to that which has possessed the religious geniuses of all ages. Can it be said that Russell is familiar with the concepts of modern science whereas Einstein is ignorant of them?

Einstein, the twentieth century scientific genius We find Einstein, the twentieth century scientific genius, expressing an opinion opposed to that of Russell; he says "You will hardly find one among the profounder sort of scientific minds without a religious feeling of his own ... cont.. His religious feeling takes the form of rapturous amazement at the harmony of natural law, which reveals an intelligence of such superiority that, compared with it, all the systematic cont..

"Would I be right in assuming that you are a kind of deist in a Spinoza / Einstein / way?" I dont speak for brpierce but I would have to say 'no' and I think its obvious by his quote: "Truth is to be found in communion and prayer. The Bible is just a starting point." A deist, Spinoza and Einstein all reject a personal god that answers prayers and has any concern for people.

But I am pro-life after 42 days because after 50 days, the embryo turns into a fetus and the fetus is considered to be alive. The gender is determined by them. Maybe some fetuses develop quicker sometimes so 42 days should be the limit on having an abortion.

Truth isn't to be found in "what you think the Bible says." You aren't inerrant The Bible is meant to be read and studied, Every individual needs to do this themselves. One also needs to pray for disernment from the holy spirit. And I also dont think it is fair of you to make a generalization and say that all creationists dont understand how to interpret the Bible and are filled with pride because that is no the case at all.
ChuddmasterZero (January 9th, 2009 @ 12:28 am)
brpierce, I'm interested in your philosophy. You consistently post considered, articulate commentary - and have done so for a long time. It seems plain that you have what is essentially a Christian disposition, although you are clearly not a literalist of creationist or anything of that ilk. Would I be right in assuming that you are a kind of deist in a Spinoza / Einstein / way?

"Dont base Christianity on others claims, if your a christian then what do you think Revelations is trying to say?" It's not about what I think. Nor is it about what you think. This is what Creationists and inerrantists fail to understand. This is the sin of pride that blinds them. Truth isn't to be found in "what you think the Bible says." You aren't inerrant. Truth is to be found in communion and prayer. The Bible is just a starting point.

As long as Israel is surrounded by hostile neighbors, it's GOING to have conflicts like this--and every time, there'll be people saying "This is the big one!" No one knows when it will come but it will come, And there will be no mistake. Even after the rapture happens people will still refuse to surrender themselves to God, this is the extent of human arrogance. Dont base Christianity on others claims, if your a christian then what do you think Revelations is trying to say?

"Israel is making big headlines these days arent they...coincidence? I think not." ...as they have been since 1949. I know folks who were firmly convinced that the war in 1948 was the fulfillment of the end times prophecy. When that didn't materialize, they thought the 1967 war was the fulfillment of the end times prophecy. As long as Israel is surrounded by hostile neighbors, it's GOING to have conflicts like this--and every time, there'll be people saying "This is the big one!"

And what of other prophecies? Say, Luke 21:32? The last I heard, the current rationalization is that "generation" doesn't mean "generation," but actually means "race." That seems to be the literalist mantra: it's literal until it's proven wrong, and THEN it becomes metaphorical.
